Removing Version

OK, we gave up. We tried really hard to use this code but it brought down our whole system so we've switched for the time being to PHPBB!

Can someone tell us how to remove everything from a system?

There was no entry in the Add & Remove Programs so I've deleted what I could find in the Windows assemblies folder, deleted the complete top level site from Sharepoint and removed every entry in the registry that refers to Bil.Simser.

We are still getting the following message appear in the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Event Category: Devices
Event ID: 1000
Date: 23/10/2006
Time: 11:48:44
User: N/A
Computer: KFBSPS02
Error: Failure in loading assembly: BilSimser.SharePoint.WebParts.Forums, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=e516dadc23877c32

Help, please!

That's too bad John. As for uninstalling, nothing is written to the registry and if you installed using 1.2 it will be in your Add/Remove programs and it will remove all the files and clean up after itself.

For a manual uninstall:
1. Remove all the BilSimser.* assemblies from the GAC
2. Remove any BilSimser.* assemblies from the bin folder of the SharePoint web site
3. Remove any SafeControl entries in the web.config file
4. Locate the custom security policy (which will be listed in your web.config) and remove the entry for BilSimser.*
5. Delete the hidden lists from the site where the forum was deployed to (using FrontPage or some other tool)
6. Remove the web part from the web part page it was deployed to
