redirection error after posting new topic/post

I have the forum web part setup on page in my portal:

i.e. http://wss.com/pages/Discussion.aspx?control=UpdateMessage&forum=1&postmethod=New

Everything works great except when ever somebody posts a new topic/category/etc. it posts something like this:

http://wss.com/pages/?control=ViewMessages&topic=4

instead of what it should be forwarding the user to:

http://wss.com/pages/Discussion.aspx?control=ViewMessages&topic=4

Any idea how I can change the default setting?

Thanks,

I have the exact same error... let's compare notes and see if we have anything in common.

First off, I'm having another problem too which may or may not be related - when looking at the list of topics in a particular forum, it is trying to display an image next to the poster's name (TriRightBlue.gif). But, I am getting the red "X" because it is being referenced at servername/_layouts/images//TriRightBlue.gif (see two slashes after images// ??) This leads me to believe that my server isn't translating correctly or something... I am having the same problem with any post - changing the name of the forum, changing any users/groups/forums/categories... Same problem - leaves out pagename.aspx before the ?......

As for my system setup - The server is running .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 (although this started before 2.0 was installed - I only installed it when I was "throwing darts" at the problem...)... IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003, patched with SP1. Windows Sharepoint Services v2 with SP2 installed. No SPS here, just WSS. Had the same problem running with MSDE and MS SQL Server 2000 back end. I see no errors in the Event Viewer from Application or System. All other parts of WSS seem to be working fine.

Anything ring a bell here?

PS the image problem I just described was fixed by adding the image to the images folder - wasn't there. But the two slash marks still may or may not be a clue at the bigger issue we are both having.

Also - WSS is / has been running on .NET 1.1 even though 2.0 is installed. I don't believe the 2.0 is even affecting the WSS (although I could be wrong).

I had that image problem too, but fixed it by finding the image on the web and posting in the right directory, I think that stemmed from having wss installed instead of sps.

My setup is pretty much the exact same as yours, I'm hoping that this problem is fixed in the upcoming version that will be released in a week or so. If not, then I might have to un-install this forum web part unless I can locate and fix this re-direction problem.

It's so aggrivating that others have this working, and I'm stuck with this simple problem.

What is different between my setup and others? LOL

I emailed Bil about this twice over the past two nights, before I found the discussion here. I am somewhat relieved to see others are having the same problem, but would love to get the problem resolved.

Two things in this thread (and man it's confusing trying to keep up on this site the way the forums work) that I'll address:

1. There is a known bug when hosting the forums inside a web part page in a document library. Redirects don't work and you end up getting thrown back to the wrong place (usually the home page of the site). THis is fixed in the next drop next week.

2. The icon problem is the fact that I'm using an image from SPS so on WSS only installs, it's not there. I'll find a WSS only icon to use and fix this.

Thanks.

In reference to point #1 -

The page is not a web part page in a doc library. It IS a page on a multi-page site (the template with the tabs across the top) however.

The redirect does not take the user home. It errors out because the address at the top is missing key information (the file name).

For example let's say the submit button should POST and go to http://server/site/forums.aspx?=control (random example, sorry if that isn't a real function). It just goes to http://server/site/?=control (the FORUMS.ASPX was left out). Every time I submit or post. This includes - changing name of Forum in config, adding/editing forums/topics, posting a topic/message,etc. Anything dealing with clicking SUBMIT or POST.

Again, the HTTP POST worked, once you get the 404 error page u can hit BACK and then REFRESH, and what you attempted to change or post was successful.

Hope this helps...

Hi Trevor,

Okay, so that's a new scenario (similar to the document library problem) in that the web part is not on default.aspx (in a WSS site or area).

I'll add tabbed workspaces to the list of type of setups to check and ensure that works for the next release.

Just never thought of adding the web part to a tabbed interface. Go figure.
